8:
English meals
Objectives:
· to introduce new vocabulary on the topic
“Food”;
· to acquaint pupils with English meal
traditions;
· to develop speaking skills through the
methods of interactive activity (pair work, group work, free communication);
· to activate new grammar rule (countable and uncountable
nouns);
· to
practice skills of listening and comprehension, reading , writing and speaking;
· to make children more active in using
vocabulary on the topic;
· to develop ability of working in groups and
pairs;
· to train physical abilities of pupils.
Equipment and Materials:
Thematic pictures, word-cards, hand-outs, individual cards, a basket, the boxes for
grammar game, textbooks, work-books, video for watching “Food in Britain”, a computer.
THE PLAN OF THE LESSON:
PROCEDURE
І. INTRODUCTION
1.
GREETING
Good morning, my dear boys and girls. I’m
glad to see you today. How are you? I think you are fine. Let’ start our lesson. (To organize the class)
2. AIMS
Today we are going to speak about traditional English
food. We’ll get to learn what English people usually eat in the morning, in the
afternoon and in the evening. We’ll recollect countable and uncountable nouns.
So
we’ll speak English, repeat and learn words, work with grammar, play and do a
lot of interesting activities. By the end of the lesson you’ll be able to tell
what the British usually eat and what you like and dislike. I suppose you’ll
enjoy the lesson. Let’s start!
3. WARMING-UP
At
the beginning of our lesson we’ll learn the rhyme. Now repeat the rhyme after
me:
Let’s
review topic vocabulary. I pack my basket for England. What can I put in my
basket? Look at the board. You can see some food and drinks. Rise you hand if
you know the word.
II. THE MAIN PART OF THE
LESSON
1. Listening and watching.
Do you like watching films? Let’s
watch a film about traditional English food.

We start watching the film. But before we watch
it’s important to know if you are ready to do it. Look at the screen and repeat
after me.

Marmalade Fish and chips
After watching you have to name food you’ve seen.

And now name as many items of food as you can.
Pupils watch the film once more.

2. Reading.

It’s
time to read the text English meals on page 65. (A. Nesvit 5). But before we read the text
it’s important to know if you are ready to do it. Look at the screen and
translate if you know the word.

Pupils are divided into three groups and read a part of the text. In
some minutes pupils read completed text aloud.

Choose right or wrong sentences, if you agree rise the green
card. If you disagree rise the red one.
3. Exercises
And now let’s have a short rest and do some
exercises. Look at the board, watch video “Head and Shoulders Song” (www.muffinsongs.com ) and do exercises. (To train
physical abilities of pupils)
4. Grammar review. Countable and uncountable nouns.
Let’s recollect, what nouns are
countable and what nouns are uncountable.
· If you can count
things they are countable nouns: one apple, two apples, and three apples.
· If you can’t count
things they are uncountable nouns: cheese, meat, water, milk.
Let’s
play a game “Grammar boxes”. I have two boxes. This one is for countable nouns and
another one is for uncountable nouns. At the beginning of the lesson you’ve got
flashcards with food. Take the cards and put it in the correct box.
I think you are ready to do exercise 12 p. 43 in your workbook.
5. Group work. Writing and speaking.
You are given the cards. Your task is to fill the gaps and say what you
like to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

HOMEWORK
1.
SUMMARIZING AND MARKING.
Today you’ve learned about some traditional English food. Don’t you think the
getting knowledge can help you in your real life? Maybe one day you’ll travel
to Britain.
Look at your desks. Each of you
have got three apples – red, yellow and green one. If you took part in all
activities and did everything correct, put a green apple on the tree. If you
only helped sometimes and didn’t understand everything, put a yellow apple on
the tree. If you didn’t understand and didn’t remember anything, put a red one.
